When The Block came calling in mid 2016, Grafico answered and jumped straight back in to a busy season. This year (our 3rd time working with The Block) had our team working with 3 of the couples, Dan & Carlene, Ben & Andy and Kim & Chris.
WEEK 1: DAN & CARLENE – GUEST BEDROOM
Carlene contacted our team mid way through the renovation of the guest bedroom with a very short deadline yet a clear understanding of what she was trying to achieve in the space. Working along side our design team, Carlene chose an “art deco” pattern to go with the heritage of the building. Contraversially a vibrant teal colour was chosen to match the surrounding feature walls. The wallpaper was polarising for the judges and had all of The Block fans talking online. Some loved it, some loathed it, some loved it but not the styling surrounding the wallpaper! Regardless Dan & Carlene were personally happy with the room and our team thoroughly enjoyed working with them on this weeks room!

WEEK 3: BEN & ANDY – GUEST BEDROOM WINNING ROOM!
We welcomed Andy in to our Nth Melbourne warehouse ready to get started with his idea for a stunning custom wallpaper in their 2nd guest bedroom. Working with our design team a vintage map of the Port Melbourne area was chosen. Our designers then manipulated the artwork to suit the colour scheme of the room and enhanced the map to suit the space. All of this in front of a film crew filming our designers every move! Wow…fortunately our team is used to working under pressure!
What transpired was an amazing feature which didn’t dominate the space, rather complementing it. The styling of the surrounding room was praised highly by the judges and subsequently gave them the perfect 10 out of 10 score to take home the win for the week! It was great to work with the super exuberant team of Andy & Ben!

WEEK 4: BEN & ANDY – LIVING & DINING
When Ben & Andy returned to Grafico for some more custom printed wallpaper we geared up for another busy week! Andy came to us with a iPhone photo of a “Kitchener & Sons” crest/logo which was the central mosaic feature on the floor in the stunning art-deco building.
The brief was to blow this image small image up and use as a full scale wall mural in their living/dining space. A difficult task it seemed however nothing was too difficult for the Grafico team! Working with our in-house design team, we manipulated the image to make it look less ‘iPhone photo’ and more ‘stunning 10/10 artwork’! All of this in an approximate 24-48hr turn around!
We think the final results speak for themselves. The artwork was widely applauded by judges Shayna Blaze, Neil Whitaker & Darren Palmer. The boys just missed out from winning this week however it was great to be involved in a another crazy week on “The Block”!

WEEK 5: DAN & CARLENE – MASTER BEDROOM & DINING
Another great week working with Dan & Carlene designing this custom print wallpaper – this time using our new textured range of self-adhesive wallpaper. The art deco inspired design was created with our design team with the clients (Carlene’s) input. A warm grey colour was chosen to enhance the calm luxury in the room.
WEEK 6: DAN & CARLENE – ENTRY FOYER / STUDY
Once again Dan & Carlene relied on the Grafico team to design print and install the feature artwork wallpaper mural in their entry foyer. Our designers met with Dan & Carlene on site late one evening and designed the artwork / choosing the stunning black and white image of Port Melbourne pier stumps which celebrates the history of the area in which the apartment is situated in.
Unfortunately the time frame got the better of Dan & Carlene and the room wasn’t completed in time – at least the wallpaper was installed in time though!
This completes Grafico’s work on another great season working with the team on The Block. We thank the whole Channel 9 / The Block team for another amazing season. We look forward to working with you once again in the future!
